Salvation So Free

Salvation So Free
by Mark Blessing

There’s no doubt about it – salvation is a free gift. No amount of financial sacrifice, no sacrifice of life, time, allegiances, or anything else we have to give can purchase our salvation for us. “Salvation is by grace, and not by works, lest any man should boast.”

However, and that is a huge ‘however’, salvation given and received is an exchange of enormous proportions; that is, a life for a life. Jesus gave His life to purchase ours. But having purchased ours, we owe the debt of our lives to Him. That means salvation for me is not free. Lest anyone thinks I am making this up, read with me. . .

Luke 9:23 “And He said to all, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily. And let him follow Me.”

Luke 14:26-27 If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers and sisters, and besides, even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple.

You see, no amount of sacrifice can ever buy my salvation; but no amount of sacrifice is enough to express my gratitude for the gift of eternal life; and maybe most importantly, the amount I am sacrificing may be the best indicator of my relationship to Jesus as Lord of my life.
